Question about immigration

Postby kultrva » Wed Mar 14, 2012 3:15 am

I am currently playing the first game that I would consider successful. With 14 townies, I actually had a surplus of food. Unfortunately, I fell victim to 2 sieges only a couple of days apart and I am down to 7 townies. I have 16 personal rooms, all completely furnished, yet several days have passed and no immigrants have arrived. I fear that should another siege come, I will be done for.

Is there anything special that I need to do to encourage immigration? All the wiki really said was to place decorations, which I've already done to no avail. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I am under the impression that sieges will only come if we have more than 11 Townies. So far in 0.42b I have not seen any sieges when I have 11 Townies or less in my town

That's good to know. At least I won't be annihilated :P

Any ideas on how to rebuild my population? Like I said, all of the personal rooms are well-decorated and I have a ton of food (if that matters).

Food doesn't really matter, and you've done well with the decorations.
But the recent death of your fellow townies is what is making the survivors unhappy.
When they get over it you'll get new immigrants!

Make sure to protect your townies by giving them at least stone maces and wooden armor if you can't get anything better. In the last two sieges that I've had to go through, almost all of my 14 Townies have full or almost full armor and a stone mace and I've not lost any Townies to those two sieges.

In one of the sieges, I had what people call in the Civilization games, a stack of doom where it seems 90% of the enemy was stacked in one cell, but when they came calling on, I'd have at least 3 of the Townies attacking the stack of doom if not more of the Townies so they were not too much problem.

Anyway, main point... Keep your Townies in armor and with a stone mace weapon at the very least.

Thanks for the advice! Is there any way to check the happiness of your townies?

Not that I've been able to find. I believe that I've seen a request for it in a couple request topics in the Suggestions forum area.

It's now been over 2 weeks since the last siege and no immigrants have arrived. My remaining townies are starting to wonder if they are all alone in this world...

In my game it took aproximately 6 weeks and then BAM, 5 or maybe it was 6 of them arrived all at once. But I only had one Townie living in my Town when immigration felt dry as the desert.

From what I understand, as long as you have decorated rooms that are free from inhabitants, and you give your Townies some time to idle around, then the immigrants will come, but if your Townies are constantly busy, even just doing the everyday mundane chores like making food, or hauling apples then it could slow down the immigration rate.

I did some experimentation and it looks like having townies be idle has a great deal to do with it. Either way, I'm back up to 12 now!
