Townie Status Window - A Draft

Postby Harzinger » Mon Mar 12, 2012 3:03 pm

When I was in the processes of exchanging all my Townies' equipment another time and spending more time looking for the ones who still need to be taken care of I thought about how an interface that would alleviate all the searching and clicking could look like. I found that something similar to what I thought of has already been suggested here: [Req] Town Inventory and Status of Townies & Town Order list. I hope City Builder doesn't mind if I copy his criteria since they are very close to what I have in mind:

Townie Status Window:
Would include a
* list of all the Townies in your Town,
* list what the health status is of each of those Townies
* list what the hunger status is of each of those Townies
* What equipment and weapons they have on them
* What they are doing at that moment
* Each Townie name would be clickable to have your view taken to where they are
* The more stats that could be listed for each Townie the better.

So here's my take at what such a menu could look like:

Image

Panels are as follows:

- Townie's name
- Current task, turns red if Townie is fighting
- A portrait, clicking it jumps to the Townie
- 5 panels for equipped items, clicking opens a menu with the appropriate Equip/Unequip options only for the item. Maybe Autoequip (which equips the best currently available item) or Unequip All. Panels could turn green/blue if equipped item has pre-/suffixes. Tooltips when hovering over like hovering over the item on the ground
- An icon for civilian or soldier, clicking toggles - possibly an All Civ/All Soldier option via right click menu for sieges
- The current Hit Points, possibly clicking sends the Townie to Hospital as has been suggested in the thread regarding healing in 42b

Such a menu would solve several problems. Currently it's really hard to find a specific Townie via the next/previous-buttons. Maintaining everyone's equipment and upgrading takes an unreasonable amount of time when population grows. Sure you could let natural selection occur since Townies with weak equipment will die eventually - but I don't want to discard anyone just because I can't manage to tell everyone to wear the shiny new armor instead of a bark suit and a club. I didn't include hunger status since it's currently not available but it would certainly help averting mass starvation - the Name panel or Portrait background could change color if hunger level is dangerous, i.e. the Townie wants to eat (yellow) but can't find anything (red) to about to starve (black).

I really like this idea.
Townie mood should also be added to this box along with an option to edit the townies name.

Good suggestion it would help with micro managing your citizens and take away the painful task of having to manually equip each citizen.

+1 for me, too.

For the items, maybe a click would auto-equip or unequip the current item, and a right click would bring up the equip item interface. It'd be especially nice if the boxes were outlined/highlighted when an equip/unequip action has been queued up.

+1

Few pointers though:

  • List needs to be more compact as in the long run scrolling through all townies would get tedious when each has such a large window
  • Needs to have a button to change what profession (worker/soldier) the townie has

Agreed but the list is need only have a scroll bar and the issue is resolved.

wellllll...i already have something similar to this...as my own "personal" mod unfortunately dont have it updated to .42b cuz im still using .42a and i also fixed the issue with clicking townies...you know when your simply trying to click there name and gota go to all tiles around them for the selection to appear...guna b releasing them soon after i update them...they mite very well be updated in a few hours in fact...as of now if you would like to try either of the mods out a PM would suffice.

P.S=i have tutorials on how to create mods on various games (I.E. Minecraft, Terraria, Towns) and i can supply links with those as well if necessary!

As others say +1

I take that to mean that yeah, I'd like to see this too.
