Townies

I know there have been some suggestions on improvements to the townies, for example I believe we will be able to restrict them to certain tasks/professions and I am very much looking forward to this. At the moment, for me, they totally lack any personality besides maybe looking nice or having a name you like.
There are several other features I would like added for townies, for example:
1) I would like townies to improve over time. A baker/cook would make better pies or stews, if involved in fighting a towny would improve in fighting.
2) I would like other professions too, like a bard who hangs around the tavern reciting epic poems dedicated to returning heroes. I had a towny called Walter de la Mare once and I'm sure he was wasted gathering and cooking.
3) Against the grain I'm guessing, but I don't really like heroes - I would like my townies to become the hero. They would be soldiers who have excelled in battle and would level up just the way the visiting heros do. we could even encourage them to become the type of heroes we currently have by building them a tavern room on a mountain for example. We might even have some control over them.
4) I would like townies to have likes and dislikes, one would love apples and pears, while despising pork pies. Another yearns for a yellow hat. Another likes poetry and ends up marrying Walter the bard.
5) I would like to know if they are happy, why they are unhappy and possibly who they like and don't like.

In this way I would care if they died. I might lose my master cook Oliver, or the village idiot Charles. At the moment deaths are just a minor inconvenince.

Happy Towning

I like this idea.. I think this would be nice to have side jobs like this for townies.. (shop keepers, bar tender possibly a village elder, your bard clearly.. and possibly other day-to-day jobs).. They would give the town a little more life and give us more reason for more people and give us more things to set up....

as long as this didn't become to overbearing, sure.. For example if they hate apples, maybe apples are 5% less filling to them but if they like it then 5% more.. That way it's not a huge pently or reward, but it is something..

I think townie wants could go with my idea for townies having quests they want done randomly..

I think that #4 should affect happiness - if a townie likes apples, then they would choose to eat apples or apple pie and get a happiness bonus, while if they dislike apples and only apples were available they would lose some happiness. Perhaps this could be applied not to individual townies (this would be ideal, but very complicated and memory-hungry), but to certain groups - elves dislike meat, dwarves dislike fruit, Townies dislike blue radish, soldiers dislike banana etc.

Also,I would love to see all townies have an exp attribute. When they level up they would get an n% speed boost to all tasks (where n = level), and if soldiers reach a certain level they become a town hero; who would act like a normal hero except they wouldn't leave if the criteria weren't met.
What's that you're eating? A nice, juicy apple? You weren't supposed to eat that you fool, you were supposed to make it into a pie! - last words recorded words of Francis D'Avre before he went looking for snowcherries, but found a hungry Yeti instead.
