2nd floor anyone?

Postby satoshisei2 » Mon May 14, 2012 12:31 pm

Will there be any possible chance of having 2nd floor in the game? I think this would be great addition as sometime I do need a lot of space above the ground and not underground. What do you think?

i'd love to have the option to level up. i don't see how it would be two difficult to code either, i mean, the dungeons are technically different floors right? haha. maybe in the distant future we'll be making sky scrapers honouring nux the god king? who knows! +1

Actually, using the dungeon mechanic would totally defeat the purpose of adding extra floors for most people - you wouldn't see the building soaring into the sky, just a single level floating in space

The Devs are working on this, and they've already said they wanted to implement it for a long time, but it probably won't be anytime soon unfortunately :(

You could always make a "reverse skyscraper" or "groundscraper" - build down into the dungeons under your buildings, just be sure to build nice solid walls to keep out the nasties in the dungeon
What's that you're eating? A nice, juicy apple? You weren't supposed to eat that you fool, you were supposed to make it into a pie! - last words recorded words of Francis D'Avre before he went looking for snowcherries, but found a hungry Yeti instead.

That's what i do, my tavern just goes one or two levels underground as if that was the second floor. That gets me dwarves, too, so it's a win-win.

They said it would be too much to handle for people with bad computers.

And that's a very bad excuse, driven more by poorly optimized code than it is by any actual system requirements.

yeah it's been suggested many times..

I think most recent statement on it from them (seems I repeated myself haha):

So if they find a reasonable low resource way to add them.. I suppose they will..

I'm not really convinced having second stories is all that necessary.. It'd be nice though.. for certain things no doubt.. but if it is just a layer above the current surface.. and you don't see it on the surface layer.. I think it'd be kinda pointless.. since I can already just build under it just as easy with the same effect..

The multi levels above ground will be visible (there are various ways to achieve that, graphically speaking), so if we do manage to have it somehow without compromising too much resources, it wont just be another level like the underground ones. that, as you said, would be completely pointless.

Or they could just make it optional so people with halfway decent machines could have an awesome 2 story tavern.

well if we have option example - if we want some buildings like 2 floors or 3 floors - we could have a option with number of floors - High pcs could have 10 floors so that's could help because the town always ground floor so easier if we had more floors

A good idea would be if you place a ladder inside a building and there is no hole, than it will make another story. And later on in the game, add stairs. Also, they could add porches.
