Townsfolk behavior

Post here your suggestions for future Towns releases

Townsfolk behavior

Postby Oleker » Sat May 12, 2012 5:55 pm

I've been noticing that the villagers always have an aggressive attitude against monsters and other enemies. What most often becomes a cumber, as the villager's preference for combat, even if the opponent has not taken the initiative. In some cases the village is on hand with something you just get to stock and preference for an enemy that is relatively far from it.

Another very common situation in dungeons, in which the hero is killing enemies and villager comes to pick up some drop. Entering the fighting and dying without purpose, because it is a villager, not a soldier.

My suggestion is to create an option to change this behavior. Given the choice between aggressive (current), liabilities (not attacking, just keep your affairs) and defensive (attack if attacked or if a friend is being attacked)

Sry for my bad english,

I have another thing that bugs me all the time...

When some hero is too badly hurt he runs back to the tavern. When he does that all the monsters he was fighting just followed him there. I had a barbarian just drag some goblin leaders into my town resulting in death of the hero and townies.

In the future when the fear mechanic is in, townies will run from mobs that give off more fear then they like. So once that change comes we have to see how it effects all the interactions we have now..

I'm sure the hero is more concerned with his life then the towns life really.. But I like this change personally.. Your townies will do it to if they can (they did it in .45b as well). It also seems somewhat rare to actually happen.. from my experience..

Just make sure there is only one entrance to your dungeon, and post a few "patrolling" soldier Townies there. I have three of them guard the entrance to my dungeon. That way there is always at least one of them awake and working if the other two are eating/sleeping.

I figured that this thread is as good as any to post my thoughts on townie behaviour (Since I'm sure it's been said before).
Maybe a mode between *Darwin Award Winner* and *Survivalist*.
It's becoming increasingly apparent to me just how poor the AI can be when it comes to not only combat, but consming food. I had a guard just idling away, doing nothing (Yes, he was a guard and not a Patrolman) and instead of eating some of the 20 bread I had stockpiled, he decides to waltz further away from town. He then died, leaving all of his Spiderite armour a good distance underground.

I'd like them to not only be able to know that that cyclops has a fist the size of their small, unarmed head, but that when you get hungry, you eat food.

I apologise if I come off sounding like a jerk about this, but I'm just really frustrated about losing 5 of my 20 citizens to starvation when there was plenty of food to eat. I'm really enjoying the game, just annoyed at this little problem.

As far as behavior goes I am having a problem with how they behave in a dungion in regards to hauling. I literally watched one townie go from half way across the surface, to the ladders, to level 5, run another halfway across the map through a maze (stepping over perfectly haulable items the whole way) to a random ITE in the corner of the map, pick it up, imediatly drop it, run all the way back to the surface to make bread while there are 2 other townies in the bakery! HOW DO THEY PRIORITIES!!!!!

They do the same thing while placing items..such as roads.

They will walk over hundreds of planned road tiles to the one furthest away.

It's like they just pick out a random item to gather and random place to drop it out of all the possibilities and it's usually the worst combination.
