Me, I just had guys near the food and they were doing nothing, not hauling or mining, just nothing. They didn't sleep, they were just... hungry but weren't eating.

I know this is advanced coding but I think it ideal if starving townies ONLY do food related tasks (harvesting, planting, milling, baking, butchering, cooking, eating). That way, they will have a degree of self preservation.

We have a post about this on the "bug reports" forum.

We are trying to know when this happens

Yeah, this is happening to me right now. I've created a wheat farm and a pear farm and I've told them to harvest wheat, pears and to make pear pies. It was working fine, actually prior to my saving of the game but when I loaded the saved game they stopped harvesting pears, so they can't make pies and they can't eat. They were moving around wood and now they're just sitting in their rooms, not doing anything. And literally the time between the first one died and the time I finished this post they all died from starvation.

This bug has been happening to me a lot. A person just died from starvation on an adjacent tile to my dining hall with a cooked steak 3 tiles away :( I had a surplus of about 30 cooked food. Soon after another one bit the dust in similar fashion when there was a huge supply of food available. It seems some townies just stop eating for whatever reason until they die. The rest of my town was fine. This is 0.45a.

Yesterday playing 0.45 I watched a few starving townies slowly crawl across the entire map at a snails pace to pick up some piece of stone, rather than eating, and then die of starvation on the way back.

If there is food available and they are close to death (maybe after starving 50% of the way to death) they should abandon anything else in favour of eating. Another idea is perhaps to refuse to do non-food creating/consumption related work until they are fed. It is annoying when they are moving stone around at a snail's pace until they die and I can't do anything to intervene. Maybe if I could give specific orders to a citizen it wouldn't be a problem and I could manually intervene.

I also am getting a lot of weird priorities. There are times when nothing seems to be getting done and I follow them to see them trek across the map, momentarily lift a piece of iron off the ground, put it right back where they picked it up from, then walk back to town. Not sure what happened since 0.42 but it seems my townies have suffered some severe brain damage.

think of it this way , some cits are just work aholics, they work till they drop dead, talk about dedication.. really now the only way they should starve is if they have to walk across the entire map several times to collect resources for the task that they are doing. which is really bad organising on the players part. they should really build a sub section of their town near the resource, or find a way of getting that resource from closer, eg: plant trees / crops etc. or build another their smithy or stone mason closer to the mines

This happens to me where one of my townies will just freeze, not work, not haul, not nothing. Two days later, they starve to death. I've figured a way to stop this. I unequip something. That seems to snap them out of it.

I can confirm that this works BUT its only a short term solution. The problem is that townies try to haul some thing that is unavailable to them, or they are trying to put a item that they are holding down, and there is no space (there is space but they insist putting the item on the spot that is not available to them) i had half of my town stuck on a mineshaft becouse they wanted to put iron behind a closed door.

I use locked doors to prevent them from running into rooms filled with mobs that would other wise kill them.
