2 suggestions for container efficiency

Postby juanitierno » Wed Feb 08, 2012 6:49 pm

1) make it so the last step in crafting (armor, weapons, food) is townies at least TRYING to place the item in a container, perhaps search about 10 or 15 steps away for a container/stockpile. This will reward proper placement and carefull setup of stockpiles and containers.
ISSUE:
Townie1: make item.
Townie1: leave on floor.
Townie2: (coming from the other end of the map, perhaps several minutes later) pickup item.
Townie2: deposit in container 2 tiles away.

2) Make it so stockpiles have a higher priority to remove from. containers already have a higher priority when storing items.
ISSUE:
Townie 1: (hungry) Remove bread from barrel.
Townie 2: (perhaps several minutes later) pickup bread from stockpile
Townie 2: Deposit bread in barrel.
This happens every time an item is taken from a container and there are stockpiles of the same type.

#2 can be solved by, like I always do, making a lot of barrels.
If my stockpile has items other than barrels, I add another 5-10 at the least <.<
My latest attempt at a working civilization had 150 material barrels to make room for all the stone and mud.
On that note: 3) Let us set a default behavior for barrels (or at least make them copy the behavior of the stockpile in which they are placed) so we can tell the citizens to leave the mud lying in the tunnels.
I don't have any mushrooms, I don't WANT any mushrooms, so I'd rather not have to waste 10 buckets to fit the 100 mud I find... <.<
At least snow has a purpose, in that it makes water.

But yes, #1 is kinda hap-hazard, in that s0ometimes people place it in the stockpile first, other times they set it in the barrel. Sometimes they place it in the barrel THEN take it out to eat it - especially common if they get hungry while making food.

I Agree, specially on your 2nd suggestion, containers are to take up less space, but if civs are taking items from the containers first than whats already laying about at stockpiles, ruins its purpose slightly & makes processes take a while long :)
