Equips with skills

Postby caprontos » Sat Jun 16, 2012 2:34 pm

While I understand heroes and townies should always be different and our townies shouldn't be able to "compete" with heroes and be as good or better...

I think being able to craft a few special items, that let a townie use a skill could be nice. A heal soldier for example.. who uses a special staff that lets them cast a heal spell every so often much like Sir. Punchwood's heal skill.. maybe less effective.

These items should not have stat bonus, or be like vanity have have a small stat boost. This makes them horrible in fighting so they require other soldiers to be effective.. which is what they would be nice for.

This would let us have some Buffing soldiers, or healing soldiers we can use in a group of soldiers (since they said eventually we will be able to use them in groups of 5).

So..

Heal staff - AoE heal on nearby friendlies..

Attack, Def, Dmg, and LOS staff - buff its stat by x amount.

Slow Staff - makes all nearby enemies slow for like 50ticks

-maybe other things.. not combat related..

Miner Staff - Makes townies mine faster and mine up to 10 blocks (if they are nearby) even if they get hungry or tired before finished.

Speed staff - makes nearby civilians move quicker for a certain amount of time.

Fullness Staff or Awakeness staff, they freeze townies food or sleep gauge for maybe 50 -100 ticks.

These can be made with very rare monster drops. or even tradeables in the market. Making them somewhat rare is fine. They are sorta like portable traps really..

Though maybe this idea doesn't suit towns... but I decided to throw it out their anyways.

I would rather have civilians and soldiers get better at doing townie jobs with time, and be able to make job-related weapons/equipment. :)

I.e. When a townie has an axe equipped they chop trees faster, or if they have a hammer equipped the armor and/or weapons they make are higher quality (Atk/Def stats in the upper end of items' range). Having more townie items that can be equipped (bone carving knives, rolling pins, butcher knives, etc.) and of different material levels (maybe only wood, stone, iron for equipable tools). Better materials = better results.

Having more types of heroes (I would like to see clerics or priests that heal/buff townies) would fill the role I think you're looking for. Being able to make special weapons (a staff of healing like you suggest), armor (bracers or protection?) and other accessories (rings amulets) that heroes can buy/use would also be awesome. :)

Heroes can never really fill the role these would do.. as heroes do not sit beside guards all day till something happens .

I was thinking more from a defensive stance for these to be used also not an aggressive stance (heroes are the aggressive side of the game, while gaurds are our defensive side).

Tools and townies upgradeing can be added just the same, I don't think these ideas would conflict.

- that said your thought is coming eventually. Burningpet has said:

So eventually.

I've been looking at modding items with effects and/or aura effects, and Burningpet said it isn't possible at the moment. It will be though at some stage, because the Devs already have plans in this area apparently.

Either way, I support this fully. I'd love to have specialised weapons with effects such as a bow which slows enemies down or a sword which has poison damage -obviously these would be much more expensive than regular items, but they would really add to the tactical side of things.
