How hard is it to get new slaves? Er, townies?

Postby lordcrekit » Wed May 30, 2012 5:56 am

So right, I read the thing below but this is kinda crazy. I'm down to 5 townies, with a roofed dining room and furnished bedrooms for at least 11.

Granted, upon seeing that they didn't have stats I deemed them all expendable and so they don't exactly get watched over. But now I need more to feed my infernal engine of industry! Do they care if the mortality rate is high?

Yea they dont care...you need idle time ( the people you have to have no work going on ) they need to be happy (i use 6 poted plants) and they need a space to move in (a free room) and that is it....oh they need to beable to get in to your town (some people wall off there towns and lock the door) if you do that rember to unlock it to get new people.

You also need food available, and the happiness needs to be more than the negative happiness caused by deaths and hunger. Generally, idle time increases happiness, and decorations increase it further.

I call them Immigrunts rather than immigrants, because they're coming to work - not for a vacation
What's that you're eating? A nice, juicy apple? You weren't supposed to eat that you fool, you were supposed to make it into a pie! - last words recorded words of Francis D'Avre before he went looking for snowcherries, but found a hungry Yeti instead.

Yea all that death will probably make it be a while before new ones come in, due to the unhappiness. Sounds like they died in rapid succession too, which I dunno if that plays a factor in making townies even less happy... but it seems like it in my experience lol.

It would be nice if being busy was not something that made townies unhappy, since that is when you could do with new immigrants.

Alternatively, it would be nice to declare a Bank Holiday or something similar so they can party and be happy.

In my experience, with great amount of idle, food and decorations death of one townie don't cause much troubles - new one arriving very fast, BUT when 4 my townies died in row it was relatively long time before new peoples came. So you need relax and wait.

From what I noticed it's not death itself that makes townies unhappy, but unburried corpses. I had few situations when after turning last corpse into a grave, new immigrants came almost immediatelly.

Happiness is both global and individual.

The global happiness is an average of each individual happiness.
And no, if townies cant see the decorations, they wont raise their happiness.
There are global events that alter individual happiness (and hence global happiness), such as when a townie die.

So, when your townies die it causes an overall hit to happiness - every death causes each and every person to lose some happiness. Also, the individual townie loses happiness when they walk by a corpse or stink cloud.
