Yeah, "it's index", or was it "its index"? I don't remember... English is very confusing, even for native speakers! :) Though I remember reading somewhere that it is better to leave the apostrophe out then to put it in incorrectly.

Its index. It's means It is or it was, etc. No apostrophe, in this case, will mean ownership. I think. :D

I'm pretty sure search engines are female though. You tell it only a few words and it will give you pages in return.

It would be "it's" because the index belongs to google ;)

The same way as "tom's iPhone" or "xavi's computer" :) generally in English only humans/animals are given a gender. Every other noun is referred to as "it"
