I recall the devs saying that they hoped to release updates about every two weeks. I think this is a really good goal to work toward. This way, while patches might be small and focus on just a few areas of game-play, they could still be meaningful and provide a noticeably different experience from the previous version. It's been mentioned that each time an update is released, sales peak. I would also imagine that, as veteran players return to the game with a vengeance to experience the new features, fresh content is posted on youtube and photo/social media sites. This likely causes more new players to discover the game. It seems to me that its in everyone's best interest to have relatively frequent updates available for download. Of course, I am not a game developer and have limited experience with modding. I have no idea how much work simply goes into prepping a version for release via multiple services on multiple platforms. If the time expended on making the release available is significant, then perhaps less frequent updates will predominate throughout the rest of development. Purely in the interest of, uhh, self interest, I'm hoping that .42B - .45 is a bit of an aberration in terms of the time it's taking to finish. While .45 will add a great deal to the game, the main new feature is heroes which are probably complex and time-consuming to implement and play-test. So, the good news is we're getting a 3% increase in overall feature richness over the course of ~1.5 months instead of the 1% increase of many other updates, ostensibly taking 2 weeks. So it seems that development is progressing steadily! The bad news is that we're experiencing severe anxiety while waiting for the patch. But, as long as the game has forward momentum and continues to become even more awesome, I'll be a happy camper. I'm very much looking forward to .45 and beyond! Keep up the great work, devs!
