Conservation! (MOD)

Postby johanwanderer » Tue May 28, 2013 5:57 am

Have you ever been on a map where the old-growth jungles (trees, pines, palm, etc.) slowly went extinct because the terrain is unsuitable for them to respawn?

Or did you gather the seedlings too quickly?

This MOD allows the player to plant the various bushes (that may have gone extinct.)

Notes:
1. There are several types of "grass" terrains. Only a certain kind of terrain works with each type of trees.
If you plant it over a large area, you can see where it works.

2. The game will attempt to relocate existing seedlings first if they exist somewhere on the map.

Install:
1. Download from TownsMods.net: http://townsmods.net/projects/view/67
2. Unzip this into your "mods" folder.
3. Enable it within the game.
4. Landscape!
5. Enjoy!

Let me give you an example:
1. Start a "Mixed" map. It has patches of sands, and maybe 5 palm trees in the smaller patches.
2. Develop your town for a while, now you think you want to build near those sandy areas and have a beach community.
3. Lo and behold, all the palm trees have died off because they spawned too slowly (and the patchy terrain is not conducive for them to spawn)
(Same with any other kind of "old-growth" forests. They have a tendency of dying off overtime, even without the player's help.)

So what this mod does is allow you to replant trees:
- wood trees at the cost of wood + mud
- fruit trees at the cost of fruit + mud

Back to our previous example. Now you can find a solid patch of sands, and plant a bunch of palm trees. Now your beach front community has some nice trees to look at. Hopefully they will propagate themselves as well, since the more solid patches of land help with spawning new bushes.

More over, it is nice to have wooded areas where things spawn and thrive on their own. (Maybe it's me, since all my buildings are just square and ugly, so I want some nature around it). Anyway, I tend to sprinkles a few plants around my developed areas, and let them grow by themselves. Almost like a nature park.

You can mod it to build a chicken "portal" (chicken farm without the prerequisites) -- how's that?
