Animal farming

Postby teundewacht » Sun May 13, 2012 4:18 pm

Hello,

I've just started playing towns and since I don't want my people to starve, I decided to start animal farming and butchering.
So I set up a pig farm but nothing really happens...
Could someone tell me what how to make pigs into food?

Sorry about the noob question.

if you got the farms finished (no red X on them) Then they will spawn pigs over time.. If they aren't making enough to support your people you have to make more.

Oh yeah, I saw a pig appear.
It was a bit confusing because there are pigs in the original texture of the pig farm but whatever.
Yeah I should have like 6, I think.

Also you can build a fence with wood. Make a square around the farm, and de pigs will stay inside. ^^

Only meat is not the best way to keep food. I like use it as a B plan if townsfolk run out of food and the weath / fruit farms are empty. And use too for bone itens, if my iron / coal production is low.
Best way to keep´food in town is weath and fruit together. Since the animal spawn time is a little large. Now in 0.46 the pear trees are no longer bugged, so we can farm it.

Sry for my bad english,

Another good option is either a 2x2 or 3x3 of chicken farms fence it in with at lest 1 or two spaces between the fence and the farms.. (depends how many people you plan to get, this space is so they can always set an egg right near the farm).. Then just do bread till you have enough chickens to start always having enough omelets.. and you will eventually not need anything else.

This also makes it so you don't have to bother with to much or to little flour making you have to adjust it every once in awhile.. it is I think the easiest to "Set it and forget it" - set up atm... Of course you need iron... but I always get surface iron..
