I am having the same problem. :(

I bought the game today too. Everything loads when creating the world quickly, but when I click save it either takes forever (10 minutes+) and loads for just as long or just stops working completely and talks about Java having stopped working. I've reinstalled Java and it's up to date and the problem continues.

The laptop I am using is literally two days old and I don't see how there could be a problem at my system. :(

I bought the game after watching Sips with his playthroughs and I am rather sad if there's nothing that can be done. Playing the game and not being able to save is just silly. :P

Let's try one thing.
Please, open the file towns.cmd with notepad (or any text editor).

The content must be a line like this one
Code: Select all
java -Djava.library.path=lib/native/ -Xms512M -Xmx512M -jar lib/xaos.jar

Change the 512 values for 1024 ones, so the line will end looking like this:
Code: Select all
java -Djava.library.path=lib/native/ -Xms1024M -Xmx1024M -jar lib/xaos.jar

Save it and now, start the game using this file (towns.cmd) instead of Towns.exe

This helps?

I am new to this game, so I don't have earlier versions to compare this too, but 10+ minutes seems realy long, my save probably takes a minute or so, which is still long, so my question here is, did you actually time this?
One other thing you can try, if you both run JAVA 1.6 and 1.7 on the same machine, try switching between them, also you could be having 32 bit and 64 bit versions of java running on the same machine, this is because not all java apps are capable of running in the 64 bit VM.
Overhere, saving and loading takes about a minute and new world generation goes faster than that, or atleast it feels like it does, but I don't know how fast this was going in the past, because for all I know it loaded in like 3 seconds, if that's the case I will do some tweaking myself overhere too.

new world generation is extremely fast for me, takes less than 30 seconds... i did time it and although it isnt over 10 minutes every time (that was my highest) it takes on average 5-6 minutes.

edit: bumped up the memory to 2048, it is now taking around 2 minutes to save. Haven't tried loading yet, will time that now.

edit #2: Alright, loading now only takes around a minute

Not noticing any time change unfortunately. :(

Is there any other advice or helpful suggestions? I'm not just going to accept the fact that loading and saving will take a long time.
