0.4.2 Laggy gameplay [SOLVED]

0.4.2 Laggy gameplay [SOLVED]

Postby s_marcell » Wed Feb 29, 2012 10:07 pm

Hey
I have read in another thread that if you give too many orders in the game then your game slows down and "scrolling becomes nearly impossible". This was in 0.38.

Now I do experience this issue but in 0.4.2. Again I have now a lot of citizens and a lot of orders and scrolling is really annoying and the gameplay is laggy. If I pause the game everything goes fine..

Tried to increase the amout of RAM the game uses (by editing towns.cmd) but nothing happened....

What do you suggest?

I've found that it's still the order, but not the amount that counts.
If you give your citizens to many impossible orders they will frequently try to execute them, but be unable.
For example giving the order to mine out all of the underground except available plots and such.

My suggestion is to remove all orders and minimum productions, and give them again.
Try to avoid giving them orders to butcher chickens and other stuff that can run out.

Another reason might be the amount of trees on the map.
I often find my map overgrown by trees and bushes and after a while this can slow you down.
This because trees tries to pop, but has no room forcing it to look for open spots.

You can also try posting the map save here and let us see if it lags on our client too.

Thanks Kleko.

Yes, the most laggy feature is the minimum stock production that uses animals (like milk a cow or butcher a pig).
New release of Towns solves this a bit. We changed the access functions to animals and now we can access it faster.

Please, try to remove that tasks from the production panel and give us feedback!

Had a run at it and managed to remove the lag.

Delete all you stockpiles (people on one side of the river can't access them thus making a lot of dead commands.
You had 30 breads on order and not enough wheat along with a few orders to build what I presume to be wall underground but the mason bench was at the other side of the river.

Basically all you have to do is remove all orders, finish the bridge and issue orders once you have enough raw materials to back most of them up.

Now I don't know how powerful your pc is, but I found that on my old pc I get a small lag if I dig to far down without clearing the bigger parts of the dungeons.

Have fun. You have a good map with lots of iron so you should be able to equip iron armour to all you townfolks pretty fast.

Thank you for your help:)

I am gonna give this a try and will let you know if I succeeded. My PC cannot be a problem since the config is:

i5 650@3,2 ghz
gtx 560@1gb
4gb ram

EDIT:

Thank you! Everything goes fine. I cancelled the orders and deleted all the stockpiles. Correct me if I am wrong but this means that I should not make any stockpiles as this makes more work for them and this slows down tha game. Am I right?

Hi.

I removed the lag just creating some stone hammers on the bottom area. After the bridge is placed this lag suddenly dissapeared.

The problem with your save are not the orders, is just the 2-towns without connection (one town at each side of the river). I will revise that and find a solution.

Thanks for the feedback.

Kind regards

i was having the same problem, removing the stockpiles and setting them again helped a lot, looks like the butcher tasks are the problem, once i removed them the lag was gone
