Welcome to the jungle + mini-tutorial on log roads..

Postby caprontos » Fri Jun 22, 2012 3:59 pm

Well long time coming.. I wanted to do a jungle theme village for awhile but.. Well towns really doesn't have to much jungleness in it.. but I found a way recently so.. (I hope you like wood)..

First an overview of the whole town:

Then insides:
My hospital (usually that is all they have for hospitals when I see it on tv ) as well as an elder house or a meeting house :

The kitchen, Tavern and docks.. They send all kinds of stuff up and down the river to trade with neighboring towns..

Most of my crafting zones:

The bridge/gatehouse to the froggie side.. This was cut off after they decided to kill two townies.. revenge will soon find it's way to the froggies.. and the brownies..

Log roads:
While you can just edit the xml to do log roads.. You can do it in an unmodded game as well.

Make a trench where you want the road, fill it with water, Order them to build bridges all along it. When they finish pause the game and remove all the water from under the bridges and raise the land back up to where you want it.

All bridges on land were done this way in this build.

Awesome job! This inspired me to try out my own wooden town. My only question I have though is how did you make the wooden floor tiles that surround your buildings? It looks like the carpentry zone tiles, but then you have other rooms inside of, or framed by those carpentry floor tiles. How did you pull this off?

When you right click on a zone, you can "expand" it, without any restriction other than going over another zone, or past any elevations. That way you can make weird shapes or expand under a wall (you can't make the zone under a wall, but you can expand the zone under it).

You can also erase a 3x3 section of a zone if you lower the terrain and then raise it back (or viceversa). Putting water and removing it while in pause lets you do it individually.

Hope this helps with the shaping of zones ^^
