You know what it reminds me of?... It reminds me of civilization 5 when it first came out and how bad diplomacy was. Diplomacy didn't give you the full picture, you were left to guessing and people panned the game saying it was awful and lacking vital information. I could see that happening with Towns as well. It won't come off as a "this is the mystery part of our game, you are supposed to just guess at the happiness level of your loyal Townies"... No, it will come off as people saying it's unpolished and missing vital bits of information that would make doing the job of running your Town complete. Hopefully SMP will have learned by SM, they finally patched in a semi decent diplomacy system that gave the players more information, hopefully SMP won't have to patch it in a year after release but will include it at release.
You're entitled to how you would like to see the game, everybody is, but I truly hope that you are wrong and that they will introduce a happiness meter if/when they introduce a GUI panel that gives the detailed information on each of the townies in the game. Because I hate (HATE) games that don't give the player the full information and just tell them to go guess what's going on in the game.
