[REQUEST] Happiness HUD mod

Postby Jerico555 » Sun Apr 01, 2012 7:36 pm

I can never tell when my people are happy or not, yes i know they need to sit around and do no work to be happy or so. I like having to see a progression bar. Happiness bar would be nice and once its full it should reset or sometin after getting some immigrants. Can you make a happiness hud bar mod?(if possible, if not then maybe in the future.)

It's funny in a sad sort of way, that something that is a much needed game mechanic (happiness) and the game doesn't actually show us how happy the Townies are.

One would think that they'd have a happiness indicator someplace at this stage since the game relies on the happiness of the Townies.

Now with the next patch (0.45) it seems the game is going to rely on happiness yet again and even more. Happy townies will walk and work faster than those townies that are not happy. One could suggest that this could be a form of an indicator as to your townies happiness, however it's not really a GUI of the happiness of each townie as well as the overall combined happiness of all townies in the town.

I don't suspect that anybody needs to even try to do a mod like this, surely at some point they're going to need to add in a way of indicating who is happy and who is not, whether it be a full blown GUI panel that lists every townie in your game, or they pop little happy or sad face bubbles that float up from the townies head every 30 seconds. One way or another, I think it likely we'll see some way of seeing who is happy and who is not. (I hope so anyway)

Actually, I hope they don't make a happiness meter. It removes the guess and build part of the game. In the next patch, unhappy citizens will work slower, and that's how you are supposed to tell happiness.

In my opinion, there is no room for guess work in what they have been saying is a town management game, especially should not be on an item that other mechanics are based around.

You know what it reminds me of?... It reminds me of civilization 5 when it first came out and how bad diplomacy was. Diplomacy didn't give you the full picture, you were left to guessing and people panned the game saying it was awful and lacking vital information. I could see that happening with Towns as well. It won't come off as a "this is the mystery part of our game, you are supposed to just guess at the happiness level of your loyal Townies"... No, it will come off as people saying it's unpolished and missing vital bits of information that would make doing the job of running your Town complete. Hopefully SMP will have learned by SM, they finally patched in a semi decent diplomacy system that gave the players more information, hopefully SMP won't have to patch it in a year after release but will include it at release.

You're entitled to how you would like to see the game, everybody is, but I truly hope that you are wrong and that they will introduce a happiness meter if/when they introduce a GUI panel that gives the detailed information on each of the townies in the game. Because I hate (HATE) games that don't give the player the full information and just tell them to go guess what's going on in the game. I much prefer that a game give me the full and clear information about what is going on in my game so that I can make my best decission in what I need to do.

Guessing is best left up to Minesweeper (IMHO)
