Townsmods.net dead?

Postby LittleMikey » Fri Sep 19, 2014 8:49 am

So the past few days I've been unable to access townsmods.net

The page loads this error:
Code: Select all
Unhandled Exception

Message:

syntax error, unexpected 'yield' (T_YIELD), expecting identifier (T_STRING)
Location:

/home/townsmods/public_html/laravel/section.php on line 131

Anyone else unable to access it?

Townsmods presents a small issue.

It's built on Laravel 3. Laravel 3 only supports PHP <5.4. Unfortunately, I have large client's for my web developing freelance, who require the server to run PHP 5.5. So, my only option is to rebuilt Townsmods.net in Laravel 4. And thats not something I have a great deal of time to do :/

Depending on your specifics, if you're using a Linuxy server, you should be able to install the old version of PHP inside a chroot and keep it isolated from any other configuration changes on your system (not sure how exactly this would work if you're using apache (outside the chroot) + cgi to get at your PHP or something though, but I'm sure the internet knows ; ). If you want to stop hosting Towns mods, I might be willing to take it over (I would probably just want a dump of the database and I'd build a new front end using something I'm more familiar with like Node.js, although it might not be too much work to get the old site up and running on one of my servers).

I've made townsmods.net open source now.

https://github.com/tommykent1210/townsmods-site

Please feel free to download, host, adapt, do whatever with it. I have client work, as well as final year of university on my plate and updating townsmods.net really isnt high on my list of priorities. I wish it was, but I'd rather leave you guys with something usable, instead of something useless.

Great, I might take a go at it this weekend.

I don't actually see the site content (e.g. the mods themselves, database of how many views/downloads each has, etc), just the code. Can we get a dump of that as well? Creating a new, empty mods site is no where near as useful as having the existing mods available =).

Thanks!

The issue with that is you won't have user accounts because of data protection, nor do I have the rights to distribute those mods outside of townsmods.net.

On a related note, I've fixed the site xD I'll still leave the code up in the repository though.

Hmmm, I'll look into fixing that. Other than that I'll just keep the bury server up but not the front end interface
